They fall in love, for reasons also completely unclear, and then Jonathan becomes the store's hot new window dresser, creating dazzling displays that make the store a success. He promptly confesses the book opens with this scene , and his confession forms the narrative of this short, riveting tale.
It's driven a wedge between two erstwhile allies: Indigenous activism which is often expressed in spiritual terms and non-Indigenous left activism, which tends to maintain a disdainful sense of superiority toward activism that draws on earth-centred spirituality. The perfect palate cleanser, perhaps, for an album that explores everything from Ethiojazz to boogaloo. What at the time was a makeshift band turned into the lineup that endures today. .
