The dealership attempted to start the vehicle, and could not start the car using a jumper box, or by jumping it with another vehicle. Put the vehicle in park, and it restarted immediately, and continued home uneventfully. I had no power steering or brakes. No check engine codes came on. I can't even sell the dang thing!! It's as if someone turned the key 1 click to the left - the engine dies, the tachometer goes to 0, power steering and brakes vanish, etc. I restarted it and it ran for about five seconds and stalled again.
The dealer initially cleaned the throttle body and told us to run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through with the next few tanks of gas. Once I restarted the vehile all was ok. We have called our Dodge dealer and n one seems to know what to do. It could be very dangerous. The fact that it had been happening to my wife more than to me makes sense, simply because of our driving styles she is on and off of the gas and brakes more than I am, which is what caused me to start considering this at all.
Here is what you are in for when replacing the crankshaft sensor. I immediately got off of the highway and took back roads. Afraid to drive truck now. First event was in the process of a left hand turn. I put the car into neutral and started it and kept my foot on the gas to keep it running. Each instance was while I was driving in a straight line. It is a black hole and we are getting no where!! In all the occurrences I have been traveling at lower speeds 30 mph or less.
But like you said there is nothing you or I can do as long as he has it. So we continue to pay for garage visits with no answers. They suggested we go to the garage for a diagnosis. I have been told that the problem is the vent on the fuel tank but you have to buy the whole fuel tank because you can't get just the vent valve. Vehicle shut down partway through the turn. Before entering the intersection, the engine stalled, with high speed traffic coming.
It ended up being the thermostat and some other parts. While driving on highways and rural roads, engine shuts off abruptly, causing loss of steering assist and only a couple brake actuations before brake assist is lost occurred before tipm campaign, still shuts off after campaign. There are hundreds of people with this year make and model that are having the same problem. One failure I had it towed in and Dodge agreed to replace he ignition switch. May be in a week or so. You have to put it in neutral and restart it. I went online to see what might be the cause and have found many related cases to what I am dealing with.
I did what a friend of mine said to do service manager at Dodge Dealership it hasnt happened again. I mean that would eliminate any wireless key communication!! This is the only transportation I have and it worries me each time I have to get behind the wheel or have my children ride in the truck. That is a safety issue because the steering and brakes are locked up at that point. I purchased this vehicle with approximately 6500 miles on it and now I have 204000.
Happens when stopping, when cruising at highway speed, when engine hot and cold. In the middle of an intersection¿while an emergency vehicle was approaching, it died and I slowly drifted over to an adjacent curve. If he does that he will be driving it. I had same problem and its the ethynol in fuel that creates a build up in the throttle body which creates this problem. The computer showed an error code not in dealers database and none of their mechanics had seen before. This occurring three days after serviced by the dealer for the second time for the same problem. I know the ecu's are different but maybe dodge was smart and made all the cars this way.
The dealer also cannot tell me the reason why this is happening. When vehicle is first driven in the mroning, it stalls during driving after about 1 to 2 miles of travel. Please relook at this problem. The truck stalled while I crossing a busy Highway intersection wife is in passenger seat , after a rapid slow down and turn left. This is going to cause a serious accident or injury to someone and Dodge has not recalled the vehicle.
